By LLCR Staff

River North is the place to be if you enjoy eating, drinking and socializing. This vibrant neighborhood, directly north of the Loop, offers incredible restaurants and bars along almost every street.

With an abundance of options, the Luxury Living team has compiled some of the hottest River North bars to visit.

New Bars in the Area

It’s no surprise that new River North bars love to make an appearance with the neighborhood continually evolving and growing

Blind Dragon has gained attention thanks to its speakeasy-style interior, unique cocktail menu inspired by Asian flavors, 1970s tiki bars, and private luxury karaoke suits. This bar truly has it all.

Bar Sótano’s opening also has River North residents excited. Find the entrance to the renowned chef, Rick Bayless’ new speakeasy in the alley behind Frontera Grill and take a 100-plus-year-old freight elevator down to the 50-seat bar. This cavernous agave den offers one of the country’s largest selection of mezcals.

The infamous Three Dots and a Dash bar has recently expanded, introducing the Bamboo Bar. This cozy tiki bar has converted its event area into a bar within a bar for even more drinking space and selections.

Popular Neighborhood Staples

Among the new bars in the area, River North is also home to some classic neighborhood favorites.

If you are looking for an authentic neighborhood dive bar, step inside Rossi’s Liquors and get a glimpse into River North’s past. While the bar’s exterior sharply contrasts its ritzy neighbors, once you get inside, you’ll appreciate the laid back vibes and affordably priced beverages. Some claim it’s the only true dive left in the city.

Boss Bar is another infamous River North bar. Since 1987 this timeless hotspot has been the local’s favorite late night bar, open until 4 am Monday through Saturday and 5 am on Saturday’s.

The Green Door Tavern has an even longer history in River North. This charming, vintage bar claims the reputation as Chicago’s oldest surviving drinking establishment, opening its doors only one year after the Chicago Fire in 1872.

Where to Get a Cocktail or Watch the Game

Right below Green Door Tavern you can find the Drifter, the last remaining, authentic 20s-era speakeasy in Chicago. Since prohibition, this tucked away bar has provided delicious drinks and unique bar experience. The drink menu changes daily and live music is performed weekly.

If you’re looking for the perfect date night, check out the Berkshire or Franklin Room. Both cocktail bars offer cozy interiors, romantic ambiance, and delicious beverages.

When it comes to finding the perfect sports bar, Theory and Public House provide an ideal viewing experience, complete with good vibes, delicious food and drinks, and plenty of big screens.

Stop by one of these River North bars, grab yourself a drink, and enjoy the unbeatable energy this lively neighborhood has to offer.
